OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are receiving the latest OxygenOS 5.1.6 software update which brings support for 4G VoLTE on Idea Cellular’s network in India. It also brings improved Bluetooth stability for phone calls, the latest Android security patch and official support for Project Treble. However, the support for Project Treble was there in the last OxygenOS 5.1.5 update, this is the first update where the company has acknowledged its official rollout. OnePlus has also announced that it is working on Android 9.0 Pie software update for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, they also said that the bug is on its way.
The latest OxygenOS 5.1.6 software update provides Project Treble support, VoLTE on Idea’s network in India, Support for the latest Android security patch and improved Bluetooth stability for phone calls. Project Treble was launched by Google in May last year, it allows Android smartphone OEMs to quickly release latest updates. It also creates a different vendor interface between the Android OS framework and vendor implementation. Also, it allows the elimination of the default wait-in period which was required for the manufacturers to modify the software specific to the hardware.
Also, this update came as a surprise as the company itself stated that it does not plan to roll out the Project Treble update on OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T. The OTA is supposed to have a planned rollout which means that the update will roll out to a limited number of users at the beginning which will be followed by the roll out to all. This helps in identifying any critical bug and getting rid of it in the initial days. Using a VPN might not work as the rollout is not based on regions but it is randomly allowed to a limited number of devices.
